Our long time friend Jennifer Nettles has teamed up with Shawn and a few other folks to start the Attic Community Playground. It has a huge vision to raise money for the arts and it kicking off it's public campaign with some auctions to meet some of the stars of today's Top 40 and Country Radio. The proceeds will go to schools in the greater Atlanta area where arts programs are losing their financial backing. Without programs like these music education would surely fail and you would have nothing to listen to but Talk Radio! :)

Saturday February 5, 2010
Lots of new dates added to the tour page for another run shows through the northeast of the USA, including a special Midnight Ramble booked for us! The Midnight Ramble is a short show that we perform with Levon Helm's band at Levon's Studio / Home in Woodstock, NY. Many artists wait a lifetime to be asked and we're honored that they enjoyed it enough to ask us back. We will also be hitting several of our favorites in the Northeast including the newly re-opened Stone Church in Newmarket, NH and Tupelo Music Hall (Both)- a venue that we have heard great things about and have tried for years to get the schedule alignment.
We should be announcing a southwest / west coast tour soon! Most of the dates are finalized so we'll get those up soon.

It's the morning after the first tour to support Shawn's new album and we awake somewhere in Northern Virginia to contimue the long trip home. Lots of records were sold and lots of radio and tv stations were visited. In the midst of all the madness "Light You Up" has found it's way to #5 on the Billboard chart thanks to a few key radio programmers out there who continue to support our artistic efforts.

Shawn, Gerry and Kip came out of mastering today with a completed record! Now for the hardest part of the recording process: Giving the songs and the album a name and branding the "product."There's a whole team over at Welk Music Group that takes it from here and is responsible for giving the album an image that stretches the bounds of what you hear. We're still firm believers in the tangible copy so there's artwork and barcodes to be established.

Studio Update
For the past weeks we've continued to maintain a constant studio and show schedule and it's paying off. Each day that is spent brings a new realization to the new record and the individual songs that are going to make it. This past week Shawn moved our operations down to 800 East Studios in Atlanta where all sorts of key parts were added. Not only the usual organ and piano that you can find on Mullins record, but also some classic sounds were let loose of the rhodes, wurlitzer and clavinet. The clavinet is an interesting instrument in the sense that it was developed to play Baroque music, but Stevie Wonder plugged it into an amp and added guitar effects to it thus opening a new door such as the sound of mega-hit Superstition. Clay Cook found his way home from the Zac Brown's Tour to added some pedal steel parts.

Show... Studio... Show... Studio
No days off for us and it's the way we like it. Shawn will continue to do weekend shows for the upcoming months as we push forward on the new record. We would undoubtedly be done with it if we took the time off but that just wouldn't be our style. Besides, some of Shawn's best ideas come while sitting in a truck stop in- let's say- Florence, SC.

Cabin Fever: Phase 1
Today marks the end of the first two weeks of recording Shawn's, yet to be titled, new record. We're have about 80% of the record complete with just a few acoustic type songs to record. We got this far this fast by setting up a studio in cabin and just going around the clock until we had to leave to set sail on the Cayamo. You can read more about the session in the "notes" tab of Shawn's Facebook page.

12 Bands: 12 Months
For the past several years Shawn has participated in the 12 Bands Campaign in Augusta, GA to help raise funds and awareness in the fight against pediatric cancer. Patrick Blanchard, "Our Bass Player", has been our link to this wonderful event through his musical philantropy and this year he has stepped down from being a musician in the cause, and stepped up to be a board member. The new format will continue the fundraising efforts throughout the year, instead of limiting it to the month of December. Shawn will be the featured artist for January and we signed you up to be the featured donors! During our January shows we are going to be asking you to contribute in small ways.

King's Pick: Team Mullins
On this weeks issue of Entertainment Weekly, you'll find Team Twilight on the cover for the release of New Moon, the second installment of the Twilight Saga. You can read all about their story on page 30. For those of you who are on Team Mullins, Shawn made page 26. Each issue comes complete with a pop culture section written by novelist Stephen King and this week he features the Uncle Stevie Mix Tape. There's a great mix of americana and nestled into the number three spot is a song we like to call Beautiful Wreck. More interesting to us is that he has chosen the live version from the Variety Playhouse cd/dvd collection over the 9th Ward Pickin' Parlor studio version. Click on the typewriter to see the whole list.

At Work: The Office
So, it was a surprise to us too, but we are all avid fans of the show so of course we didn't miss it. For those that didn't see it, we'll post a link to Hulu or one of the other sites that show The Office online. Shawn said that he was completely honored that a show of that caliber would give him such recognition, even though it was tongue and cheek. Michael Scott sings Lullaby occurs around the 5:00 minute mark and you can watch it for free for a limited time on Hulu.com.

Tour: Wild Wild West
We're heading to New Mexico and Colorado for the weekend to play a few shows. Admittingly, we're feeling a little rusty since everything we have done in the last few months has been within an hour of Atlanta. The Atlanta Airport seemed like and odd place until we hit security with our suspicious bags. Then the whole routine came back to us...

Artist Relations: Zac Brown
Shawn celebrated with Zac Brown as his record "The Foundation" was certified platinum by the RIAA. Verizon Wireless contracted Zac to play a private event on the date with a long set of music provided by Zac's Band, Sonia Leigh, Levi Lowrey and Shawn. Shawn has a co-write on the album with the song "Toes", so far it's made it's way up the country charts while "The Foundation" has moved in and out of the number one spot for the last few months. Nice Job Zac!

Studio Session: Callaghan
This week we have a visitor from the U.K. with London based singer-songwriter Callaghan to record a few songs for an upcoming release. We recorded the the bulk of the tracks at Gerry Hansen's studio with members of Shawn's band while recording piano and organ with Marty Kearns at 800 East studios in Atlanta. "The world needs more singer-songwriters like Callaghan. In a time where mediocrity is seen as brilliant, Callaghan truly shines as the real deal. Her voice is original and pure and she is one of the greatest unsigned talents that I've ever heard."- Shawn
